Questions About Siding:
Do you give free estimates?
Yes, however, if the estimate is regarding an insurance claim, there will be a minimum fee and I will deduct the cost of the estimate from the price if I do the job.
Are there different grades of vinyl siding?
Yes. There are two types of vinyl siding. The good stuff and the cheap stuff! Let me explain. The good stuff (premium vinyl) is made from virgin vinyl resins and the color is added before being made into siding panels. This is called (color through formula). Color will not fade.
The cheap stuff (reprocessed material) is made from recycled plastic soda bottles, vinyl lawn furniture, pvc garden hoses and all the other stuff we throw out on trash day. It is then reprocessed and made into more soda bottles and garden hoses and yes, vinyl siding! The color is than applied to the surface only. This material will fade in time.
Although using this material on your house will lower the cost of the
siding job a few hundred dollars, I will not sell or install this material.
Will you do my house from start to finish without leaving to start another house?
Yes. When the material is on the site and we set the equipment in place, we work on one site till the job is completed.
Do you need a deposit when I sign the contract?
No. Unless we are ordering replacement windows, a deposit is not
required. We normally get half the cost when we start the job (all material and equipment on site) and half when the job is completed.
Can you provide me with a few references?
Yes, hundreds if needed.
Is there a siding you prefer?
I have had the best results with Alcoa and Certainteed products. The most popular is the Alcoa "silhouette" line and the Certainteed "main street" line. Both are premium vinyl and the 3" profile (3"clapboard) provides the tightest overlap (seems are less noticeable).
Do you use anything behind the siding ?
Yes. We install a "Dow" brand product made of extruded styrene. Normally 1/4" breather type. This is a plastic coated rigid foam that is perforated to allow moisture to pass through. Please see photo gallery.
